Cycle tunnel beneath the roundabout. High quality but needs cleaning of leaves and litter.

Overgrown cycle infra here, very good but needs cleaning.

Very good cycle infra to cross the motorway.

Slightly overgrown but otherwise quite good cycle infra to cross the motorway.

Today's nomination for worst bit of cycling infrastructure goes to @BuryCouncil for this little gem..

Has anyone @BuryCouncil considered how these these repeated kerbs / car driveway access arrangements (eg St Marys Rd, Prestwich) are a real barrier to disabled people, ppl with V small kids etc? @cllralanquinn @LBBuryS @pootlers @walkridepw ... [more]

An extra beefy line has been installed here, although it will need wand protection to prevent intrusion by drivers.

Another example of the high standards that Bury Council maintains on this otherwise good cycleway. Who wouldn't want to cycle through a huge quagmire of mud, eh? And to those who aren't familiar with the route - there's a paved cycleway ... [more]

This could be a quiet shortcut but unfortunately the surface is very badly degraded.

This "cycleway" is a complete mess and nothing more than a very old pavement with a line of paint.

A sharp, steep lip now prevents you cycling from the bridge onto the sealed surface.

Welcome to the National Cycle Network. Please go away.

A good quality cycle crossing enables people to cross this busy road in comfort and safety.

A new short link between these two estates provides a much easier route. Note - no silly barriers!

The access here used to be via a tiny little gate, but it's recently been vastly improved and is now easy to walk and cycle through. I suspect this is mostly to do with emergency vehicle access but it's very welcome.

Utterly pointless cycle barriers. No reason for them to be here. Visibility is good, there won't be a speed issue on the bridge given the approaches, so the only reason I can think that money has been wasted here is to prevent motorcycle ... [more]

A pointless obstruction on one of the poorer parts of this cycle route.

Good surface on this route.

There are a few slightly bumpy bits but generally this is an excellent route between Tottington and Bury. The existing barriers have been partially removed.

Silly barriers blocking access to the cycle path. Utterly pointless.

The criminally underused Daisyfield Greenway, the surface throughout is superb but at the moment, it doesn't really connect very well west of here. Hopefully it will be linked up properly to the new cycleway that leads to Bolton. A link e ... [more]

This access road used to be a very rough, potholed gravel track. It is now a lovely smooth asphalt surface, perfect for cycling.

A dirty (due to construction) but very smooth new cycleway. Behind the photographer the cycleway toward Hardman St is not yet complete.

Panoramic view of the route the new cycleway takes across this existing bridge. At the top left you can just about see two metal fence sections - these are to slow cyclists approaching the steep curve, and seem spaced adequately to allow m ... [more]

Beautiful surface on the new cycleway. Note the gravel on either side, which may be to reduce overgrowth?

A very smooth surface across an existing bridge, leading onto Buckingham Drive. Very well done.

A new cycleway between North Radcliffe and Bury. Very smooth surface, no silly barriers, these bollards are perfect.

Very poor drainage and lack of maintenance has filled this path with mud and water. It's actually a hard tarmacadam-type surface on the right, but it's under a sea of mud.

Lack of cleaning makes this otherwise good path slippery and dangerous to use. It also suffers severe drainage problems near the old Ringley Station. Bury Council need to pay more attention to this track, just because motorists don't use ... [more]

Bury/Salford Irwell Sculpture Trail. Bridge over the R. Irwell

Bury NCN6 approaching the Motorway bridge over the M60 The bridge you can see carries an abandoned rail line. The path on the old high level line ends abruptly before the high level viaduct. For the adventurous there is a steep track from t ... [more]

Bury/Salford Irwell Sculpture Trail. Bridge over the R. Irwell

North Manchester Bury/Bolton borders NCN6 between M60 to Radcliffe now newly resurfaced ! Blurred pic of the start of the resurfaced Outwood Trail transformational. Could do with 'soft edges though - edges built up to the level of the tarma ... [more]
